Summer Reading List: Health Topics

Summer is just around the corner, and it’s time to plan your child’s summer reading. Considering the current global pandemic, we thought it would be even more important to have books that discuss health. Your child will learn all about the importance of eating their veggies, signs of sickness, and how to get a better night’s sleep.

“Eating the Alphabet” by Lois Ehlert
Available on Kindle and hardcover, “Eating the Alphabet: Fruits & Vegetables from A to Z” teaches young children the alphabet and upper- and lowercase letters, all while discussing fruits and vegetables. Plus, at the end of the book, there is a food glossary that provides interesting facts. It’s a great way to get your child excited about eating his veggies!

“The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist”
The Berenstain Bears are a beloved children’s classic whose stories teach a variety of lessons. “The Berenstain Bears Visit the Dentist” highlights visits to the dentist, something your child may dread. The family is visited by the tooth fairy, and the story can help your child if he’s nervous to get his teeth checked out!

“Back Off, Sneezy!: A Kids’ Guide to Staying Well”
This book by Rachelle Kreisman teaches your child all about germs and how they are everywhere. It includes fun facts and helps your child know what to do about germs! He will learn how to avoid them, guard himself from getting sick, and tips to prevent passing on the germs to other people.

“Listening to my Body”
Mental health is a major component of health topics. This guide helps kids understand the connection between their sensations and feelings. This will help your child identify feelings and practice naming them.

“Things I Love About Bedtime”
Things I Love About Bedtime” highlights the benefits of a good night’s rest, so that your child is motivated to get into bed at their bedtime. Through colorful illustrations, the story follows a bunny as he prepares for bed by taking a bath, brushing his teeth, and putting on pajamas. All the ways to prepare your little one for sweet dreams!
