Bible Lessons That Teach Work Ethic

The Bible offers many lessons that can help raise your child into a responsible human being. In fact, a part of parenting is teaching your child to have a good work ethic. Teaching them at a young age helps them prepare for real-world situations, such as college or their  career. Use these Bible verses to teach work ethic.

Proverbs 10:4–5
Proverbs 10:4–5 shows that hard work produces wealth, while laziness results in poverty and disgrace. It says, “The slack hand impoverishes, but the busy hand brings riches.  A son who gathers in summer is a credit; a son who slumbers during harvest, a disgrace.”

Luke 16:10
In Luke 16:10, the Bible tells us that in order to have a good work ethic, you must be dependable. “The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones; and the person who is dishonest in very small matters is also dishonest in great ones.” Being reliable and trustworthy should always be a priority. Foster a sense of dependebility by encouraging your child to take actions such as always being punctual and prepared with supplies. When he performs even small actions like this, he will gain trust from his teachers and peers.

Proverbs 21:5
Teach your child that a hard worker plans ahead and thinks about the future. Proverbs 21:5 states, “The plans of the diligent end in profit, but those of the hasty end in loss.” By thinking ahead, he will prepare for success.

Ecclesiastes 4:9–12
Getting your child to do their chores is probably one of the most difficult tasks a parent can have. The Bible teaches us that chores are an essential component of work ethic, and that they  bring us together. Ecclesiastes 4:9–12 says: “Two are better than one: They get a good wage for their toil. If the one falls, the other will help the fallen one. But woe to the solitary person! If that one should fall, there is no other to help. So also, if two sleep together, they keep each other warm. How can one alone keep warm? Where one alone may be overcome, two together can resist. A three-ply cord is not easily broken.”
