How to Keep Your Child Focused During the Holiday Season

The holiday season is upon us. We’re getting ridiculously busier, and time is limited. We understand your child is having a difficult time focusing at this time of the year. St. Cloud private schools has tips to keep your child focused on his schoolwork this holiday season.

Shorten Tasks
Break down the schoolwork into several small tasks to help him feel less discouraged and stressed. Start with small, simple tasks, like one chapter or math problem a day. Over time, build up the assignments to boost his attention. Once he completes the tasks, he will feel more confident.

Make It Fun
Children often consider educational activities to be boring and frustrating. Turning homework into a game, themed topics, or illustrations will keep your child engaged. Vocabulary can be fun with themed games, timed rounds, and reward systems. If your child loves sports, use sports games and lingo to get through lessons. Creative links will eventually motivate him to look forward to school stuff!

Recreational Activities Should Require Attention
In addition to classwork, non-school activities should require attention skills. There are plenty of activities out there that rely heavily on attention spans. Take every opportunity as a chance to practice boosting his focusing. Puzzles, for instance, are a great solitary task that allows your child to really focus. Consider having a family game night! Charades, board games, and trivia all give your child the opportunity to boost his brain function.

Snacks
Our schools highly recommend giving your child healthy snacks that encourage concentration. Walnuts, blueberries, dark leafy greens, pomegranates, and beets all have benefits for your child’s brain. He may not enjoy eating them, so incorporate them into satisfying recipes!

At St. Cloud private schools, we foster an atmosphere of care and an environment of high expectations and effective discipline. To learn more about what makes us different, contact the Office of Catholic Schools at the Diocese of Orlando by dialing 407-246-4800.
