5 Life Lessons Children Can Learn from the Bible

While the Bible contains complex overarching themes and morals for adults, children can also benefit from reading it. Fantastical stories and poignant verses can guide anyone who wants to learn. Some lessons can be simplified in a way that teaches children new concepts and reminds adults of what matters. Here are some of those lessons.

Share Your Gifts

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.” - Hebrews 13:16

Everyone has their own set of God-given gifts and talents. Embrace what makes you unique, and share what you have with the world. Rather than thinking of what you might receive in return, help others solely because they need it. Think of serving others as a way of serving God.

Love Your Neighbor

“Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.” - Romans 13:10

One of the main lessons your child can learn from the Bible is to love their neighbor as they do themselves. It’s important to love others unconditionally, even when it’s hard. Loving others sometimes means making personal sacrifices, which makes it all the more important.

Be Selfless

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” - Philippians 2:3

Being humble and putting other people before yourself can go a long way. It’s important to have a positive impact on the world, not because of how it will help you, but because of what it can do for others. Acknowledge each person’s worth, seeing everyone as a beloved child of God.

Live in the Spirit

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Faith can have a positive impact on life if you allow yourself to live with a spirit of worship. Taking the time to rejoice, pray and be thankful can help children discover and grow in their faith. From a young age, children can look to God as a trusted advisor and express gratitude for the blessings they receive.

Timing is Everything

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” - Ecclesiastes 3:1

There’s a time and a place for everything, and God is always overseeing the process. Children can take comfort during stressful times in knowing that it’s all part of God’s plan. Some days are meant for playing or resting, while others need to be committed to homework and chores. Life is all about balance and timing, and children can benefit from knowing that early on.
