Mother’s Day Activities for the Whole Family

Between work meetings, volunteering at your kids’ school and dropping them off at band practice, finding time for family bonding can be a challenge. This Mother’s Day, you deserve to take time to celebrate the life you’ve built. See if you can recruit other family members to help you plan and set up the activities for the day. Here are some ideas for spending Mother’s Day together and creating lifelong memories.

Plant Flowers

Bouquets are a classic Mother’s Day gift, but planting flowers as a family creates a gift that keeps on giving. Assign everyone in your family a different task. Have one person make a Mother’s Day sign, one or two people plant flowers, and let another family member play photographer. Start with small flower buds or blooms, and take a family photo when you’re done planting. Your whole family can watch the flowers grow over time, and they can help by watering and nurturing the plants.

Make a Scrapbook

Chances are, you’ve taken several family photos on your phone or camera. Download and print some of the best ones for a scrapbook. Buy craft items, or use what you have at home. When Mother’s Day comes around, put everyone in charge of different pages sorted by years, holidays or other significant events. As you and your children go through the pictures and put together pages, everyone will have an opportunity to reminisce and show off their crafting style.

Family Picnic

If you and the family spend too much time cooped up inside, consider getting together for a family picnic. Have your children help you grocery shop and make your favorite picnic foods. Have your family pack the food, plates and utensils in a basket, grab some blankets, and head out to the nearest park. Bring an outdoor activity for your child or outdoor games the whole family can enjoy.

Request R&R Time

Mothers, maybe your ideal day off focuses solely on me-time. If that’s the case, clue your family in on your needs. Make a wish list that includes everything you’d like for Mother’s Day. That may be an hour by yourself or a chance to sleep in. The rest of the family could get together to prepare your favorite meal to give you a break from cooking. See if your children can go one day without fighting one another. Whatever you want for Mother’s Day, it never hurts to ask.

Mothers work hard to raise their children, and they deserve opportunities to celebrate themselves, whether it’s through family bonding or alone time.
