Meet Lorry Held, Middle School Religion Teacher at Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Kissimmee

Mrs. Held’s hope for students in her classroom: “Become closer to God. Grow in their faith.”

One of the unique benefits of a Christ-centered education at our Osceola private schools is the ability to integrate the Gospel message into every lesson, experiment, and experience for your child. At Holy Redeemer Catholic School in Kissimmee, Mrs. Lorry Held helps children grow in their relationship with Christ and in their Catholic values as the 7th Grade Teacher, Middle School Religion Teacher, and Campus Minister.

With her recent recognition as Holy Redeemer’s Distinguished Catholic Educator of the Year, learn more about Mrs. Held’s background and what motivates her to teach students.

Sharing Her Faith With Students For Nearly 30 Years

Mrs. Held has been a Catholic school teacher for 28 years. She began her teaching career as a Church Musician, where part of her job was serving as a musician teacher for the parish school. She quickly fell in love with teaching students and helping them grow in their faith, and she has worked in Catholic schools ever since.

Inspiring Students Through the Gospel Message

In her classes, Mrs. Held engages students by sharing her faith with them. Through her past experiences, she has learned, “God always has and always will be with me. He never has and never will abandon me. That’s what I want to share with [my students].”

What she enjoys about working at Holy Redeemer is being able to worship and celebrate Mass with a faith-filled community. “I cannot imagine not talking about my faith in school,” she says.

The most rewarding part of her job is helping students grow in their faith and feel connected with God. She says the best moments are “when the Holy Spirit touches the heart of a child, and they know God is there for them.”

Getting to Know Mrs. Held

  • She loves making music with her grandchildren, kayaking, riding her bike, and reading.

  • Her favorite movie is “The Wizard of Oz.”

  • She loves reading anything science fiction.
