Connect With God This Summer

Summer vacation from Osceola County private schools means a break from school, but it never means a break from God. Help your children stay connected to God in the midst of a busy break.

Go God-Scouting

Take your family out to the park or the pool with a pencil, notebook, and camera. Record every time you see God — whether it’s in the kindness of a stranger, in the laughter of a loved one, or the chirp of a bird. Keepsake all of your summer God-sightings in a journal.

Keep a Prayer Journal

Keeping a prayer journal will make you feel good. Your children can respond to these prompts: God, here’s what I’m happy about right now; God, here’s what I’m feeling sad or frustrated about right now; God, here’s what I’m wondering right now.

Teach your Kids a Blessing

Make sure your children are equipped with blessings when they encounter someone who needs encouragement. For instance, the Aaronic blessing (Numbers 6:24-26): “The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”

Volunteer at the Church Building

From cleaning the seats to organizing the Bibles, and coordinating events and developing fundraisers, there is always something to do at Church!

Make a Praise Playlist

Make a praise playlist with all of your favorite worship songs. Spend time singing and dancing the morning away!

Read a Book About a Christian

In your reading routine, incorporate books on Christians making a difference in the modern world. Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa are inspirational role models to look up to. Amazon has a collection of biographies, such as Martin Luther King, Jr: A Symbol and Hope for Many People and I Thirst: 40 Days with Mother Teresa.

Do Good Deeds

Volunteering at a soup kitchen, taking toys to a homeless shelter, buying a treat for someone feeling sad, and visiting a senior center are all good deeds and ways for your children to be with God. Both parties will feel good after the experience.

Walk with God

Through nature, you’ll feel a connection to God. Visit a park or a hike a trail, and let your children walk independently. Bring your prayer journal, family-copy of the Bible, and praise playlist to engage in conversation and fun games.
